Leadership

Artful leadership is more than just the sum of the fragmented parts. It looks at the dynamic principles and the mutual relationships between all parts that together form the whole. When we operate in line with the universal laws it takes less effort and we find ourselves in harmony with each other and our surroundings.

The California Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports embraces the principles of artful leadership. We encourage innovation, quality outcomes and high performance to influence the likelihood of individual commitment and engagement in organizational systems change. By bringing out the best in others, delegating, building trust and shared responsibility the artful leader empowers others to find and develop their expertise, share successes and failures, and casts a vision drawing people into the change process. The artful leader shares power, is optimistic and positive, seeks perfection and uses evaluative practices for constant feedback and decision-making.

Leadership teams begin by owning the problem and creating safe, non-threatening environments that are inclusive of all stakeholders. This systemic approach to change brings clarity of vision, establishes the benefit of the change and develops a willingness to accept change. By creating and sustaining this momentum the artful leader is supporting out of the box thinking, connecting with natural rhythms and “swinging in the spiral” seeking infinite possibilities.
