Organizational Structure

What is CalTAC~PBIS's activity?

California Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is a non-profit educational organization servicing public and non-public schools, communities and business in managing positive systemic change. The primary focus is the development of positive pro-social cultures for ALL. CalTAC~PBIS, Inc. applies the principles of systems change theory (Concerns Based Adoption Model); scaling up of evidenced-based educational practices (National Implementation Research Network –nirn.fpg.unc.edu); and Response to Intervention framework (University of Oregon - pbis.org and University of Connecticut - cber.org) as the organizing structures for our work. Building the internal capacity of educators, communities and local business in the development of positive pro-social cultures for ALL is the professional development and consulting educational work of CalTAC~PBIS, Inc.

Who conducts the activity?

Highly qualified professional speakers, behavioral experts, educators, and skilled professional development personnel provide the services. Each of these professional’s have over 20 years of experience in the field of education and social service working with children, youth, families and communities. Their varied backgrounds bring a rich and vibrant perspective to the work of preparing organizations to thrive in the 21st century.

When is the activity conducted?

The organization’s activities are focused on a three to five year professional development process whereby the participants explore current belief systems and actions and move to the desired state of beliefs and actions. In this process, participants are required to embrace several paradigm shifts central to their current culture in order to move to the establishment of a positive pro-social culture for ALL. Central to our work and following the aforementioned principles, CalTAC~PBIS supports participants in “doing business differently.” Sustainability, scaling up and fidelity of implementation are key components of how CalTAC~PBIS, Inc. activities are organized.

Where is the activity conducted?

CalTAC~PBIS, Inc. works within the geographical and social structures of organizations. Professional development activities; consultation and coaching activities; and evaluation activities are conducted locally for each organization. CalTAC~PBIS embeds itself within the structure of the organization, establishes internal capacity and empowers the organization to further refine and personalize the growth of positive pro-social cultures for the 21st Century. Organizations move from exploration, installation, initial implementation, full implementation, and sustainability within the 3-5 year process.

How does the activity further an organizations self-sufficiency?

These activities provide focused and systemic approaches for positive pro-social change to public and private educational organizations providing social services to their communities. Systemic change requires initial expenses for consultation, coaching and training and then becomes sustainable as these “new” practices and beliefs become the way of doing business. Many of these organizations lack the funds to begin this work and while the research is clear and the outcomes unequivocal, positive pro-social cultures in our educational organizations, communities, and businesses are woefully undeveloped leading to higher high school drop-out rates, lower academic achievement scores, higher rates of misbehavior and bullying, and decreases in moral. As a tax-exempt educational organization, CalTAC~PBIS,Inc. is committed to secure funds necessary to support public and non-public educational organizations in making the changes necessary to become positive pro-active systems thinking educational organizations.

What percentage of CalTAC~PBIS's total time is allocated to the aforementioned activities?

With the exception of fund raising, organizational management, and research and development CalTAC~PBIS’s primary focus is on the aforementioned educational practices. 100% of our time is to develop, fund, and implement positive behavioral interventions and supports beliefs and practices.

How is the activity funded?

Currently, we are funded through individual contracts with organizations and volunteer hours by the professional development staff, officers and board of directors. This is limiting CalTAC~PBIS, Inc’s ability to respond to the number of requests we are receiving for educational support and guidance. In order to meet the demand CalTAC~PBIS, Inc is actively pursuing grants, foundation dollars, donations and fund raising activities.
