Cultural Responsiveness

Are all students benefiting equally from our teaching & discipline? The culturally responsive outcome for schools implementing PBIS is to to create safe, respectful, effective and relevant social cultures where successful teaching and learning are possible and problem behaviors are prevented.

Culture is defined by the language, beliefs, values, norms, behaviors and material objects that are passed from one generation to another. If culture is not considered, multi-tiered frameworks run the risk of intervention practices working only for some students. This promotes inequitable education access, outcomes, and the continuation of the disproportional representation of culturally diverse students who are suspended and expelled.
